An alliance of four engineering schools
Backed by internationally renowned research laboratories, these programmes are located in a region where more than 40% of engineering graduates in the Auvergne–Rhône-Alpes region are trained.
A dynamic in motion
“As planetary boundaries continue to be exceeded, we at Centrale Lyon, ENTPE, INSA Lyon and Mines Saint-Étienne are aware of the central role that engineering schools play in supporting socio-economic actors and society in the current transitions. Working with and for academic, economic and public stakeholders in the region is essential to addressing the major challenges facing the world and supporting the transformation of organisations and society.
That is why we have decided to combine our research expertise and our know-how in initial and continuing education by creating the Lyon Saint-Étienne Engineering Allinace.”
The College of Engineering: the realisation of a shared vision
Since 2022, these schools have been pooling their expertise to tackle three major transition challenges:
Decarbonised industry and society
The circular economy
A responsible digital society
Our ambition?
To create a unique ecosystem where education, research and innovation come together to train engineers and scientists capable of producing knowledge and concrete solutions. Our common goal: to build a more virtuous society, for today and for tomorrow.

Centrale Lyon

Founded in 1857, Centrale Lyon ranks among the top 10 engineering schools in France. It trains more than 3,000 students of 50 different nationalities on its campuses in Lyon-Écully and Saint-Étienne, with its internal school, Centrale Lyon ENISE: assistant engineers, general engineers, specialist engineers, master’s and doctoral students.
Together with the Groupe des Écoles Centrale, it has three international locations (China, Morocco, India).
The training provided benefits from the excellence of the research carried out by the six CNRS-accredited laboratories on its campuses, two international laboratories, six international research networks and ten joint laboratories with companies.
Its pursuit of excellence and high-level teaching have enabled it to establish dual degree agreements with prestigious universities and cutting-edge partnerships with numerous companies.
Centrale Lyon aims to address the challenges faced by socio-economic actors in major transitions, focusing on the themes of sobriety, energy, the environment and decarbonisation.
ENTPE, Graduate School of Civil, Environmental and Urban Engineering

Founded in 1954 and located in Vaulx-en-Velin (Rhône), ETPE, the school of sustainable regional development, is an engineering school with 235 students per year and five laboratories.
The school aims to train engineers and doctors (civilian or civil servants) who will design and build the territories of tomorrow.
The school covers the following areas: design and management of buildings and built heritage, construction and operation of infrastructure, materials and construction, sustainable transport and mobility, impact of development and infrastructure on the environment, natural resource management, urban planning and management, urban policy, risk management, etc. ENTPE also offers master’s and specialised master’s degrees.
Its goal is to become the leading school in the field of ecological and solidarity-based transition and to organise itself according to the status of an institution with a mission.
INSA Lyon

Founded in 1957, the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon (INSA Lyon) trains humanist engineers to respond to the socio-ecological and digital challenges of an ever-changing world.
Each year, INSA Lyon welcomes more than 6,000 students and 600 doctoral students, and awards degrees to more than 1,000 engineers and 150 doctors.
As a school open to the world, INSA Lyon has built up a network of more than 200 academic partners across five continents and has nearly 100 different nationalities on its campus.
Committed to social openness and diversity, INSA Lyon pursues a very active policy in this area through its Gaston Berger Institute.
The school also develops excellent, responsible and socially responsible research based on 22 laboratories. INSA Lyon is part of the INSA Group, the leading network of French public engineering schools, which currently has seven establishments and six partner schools in France.
Mines Saint-Étienne

A member of the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), France’s leading group of engineering and management schools, the École des Mines de Saint-Etienne is an international engineering school driving innovation with a societal impact.
The school has 2,500 students, 27% of whom are international, and 480 staff members across three campuses: Saint-Etienne, Lyon and Provence. It is listed in two international rankings: Times Higher Education and QS World University Ranking by subject, and was awarded the DDRS label in 2017.
With five research and training centres, one scientific culture centre, six research and training chairs, seven technology platforms, €8 million in partnership research and a budget of €42 million, Mines Saint-Etienne pursues a proactive policy to support companies in their ecological, digital and industrial transitions. Its ambition: Inspiring Innovation!
