A scientific alliance for decarbonisation
A unique initiative focusing on doctoral theses
The thesis portfolio is a pioneering scientific initiative led by the four schools of the Lyon-Saint-Étienne Engineering College (Centrale Lyon, ENTPE, INSA Lyon, Mines Saint-Étienne) and Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne. Its ambition is to bring together multidisciplinary research on major societal issues, creating a unique collaborative dynamic between doctoral students to co-develop innovative solutions.
A unique approach, rolled out over three years:
- 2024: Focus on decarbonisation.
- 2025: Focus on responsible digital technology.
- 2026: Exploration of the circular economy, the College’s third strategic priority.
An interdisciplinary scientific community
The programme brings together 14 supervisors from eight research laboratories in Lyon and Saint-Étienne, with a wide range of expertise (mechanics, electronics, materials, economics, environment, etc.). Doctoral students are affiliated with four doctoral schools and benefit from an environment that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, with cross-laboratory visits and regular seminars.
A human and committed approach
Young researchers praise the collaborative spirit and scientific richness of the cluster.
Djerareou Herman (INSA Lyon) sees it as ‘an opportunity to train in industrial R&D’, Khoa-QLDA Nguyen Ngoc (Centrale Lyon) values ‘the environmental dimension of the project’ and Agathe Cavanna (Jean Monnet University) appreciates ‘the multidisciplinary approach and global vision on decarbonisation issues’.
